False Claims Act
The False Claims Act is the federal law that makes knowingly submitting, or causing, a false claim for government payment a civil violation, with damages of up to three times the government’s loss plus a penalty per claim.
What to know
- Whistleblowers can file cases on the government’s behalf and share in any recovery.
- Knowingly keeping a Medicare or Medicaid overpayment can also violate the Act.
