Reinstatement
Reinstatement is OIG’s written decision that ends an exclusion and lets a person or organization take part in federal health care programs again. It is not automatic when the exclusion period ends.
What to know
- The person must apply to OIG, no earlier than 90 days before the period ends, and is reinstated only once OIG grants it in writing.
- Getting a new Medicare or Medicaid provider number does not reinstate anyone.
- Reinstated people are removed from the LEIE, so a name that drops off the list between two checks may reflect a reinstatement.
