Glossary
Excluded individual or entity
A person or organization that is currently subject to an exclusion and listed on the LEIE or a state Medicaid list. The programs it covers do not pay for any items or services they furnish, order or prescribe, directly or through someone else.
What to know
- The payment ban follows the person into any role: as an employee, a contractor, a vendor’s staff or an owner, not only as a billing provider.
- OIG’s 2013 bulletin explains that the ban covers administrative and management services as well as patient care, whenever a program pays for them directly or indirectly.
- The status ends only with reinstatement. Finishing the exclusion period alone does not restore it.
